The Hawaiian Classical Christian Academy is a new private school starting in Hilo, Hawaii. We will be opening with preK-8th grade and continuing on till 12th grade in the upcoming years. We will be providing a rich liberal arts curriculum of classical education while using many of the methods of Charlotte Mason. HCCA will be a school focusing on establishing children on God's truth, giving them a moral foundation while loving them as persons uniquely created in the image of God.
Another focus of the school will be to provide students with the rich culture of Hawaii. They will learn the Hawaiian language throughout elementary, learn to play the ukulele, and learn to dance the hula. Students will have the advantage of experiencing canoe riding, arts and crafts, and many incredible field trips. Since marine life is at our fingertips, we have an erupting Kilauea Volcano, and some of the best telescopes in the world on Mauna Kea Mountain, science is always hands on in Hawaii.
The Hawaiian Classical Christian Academy will provide the outstanding curriculum of classical education which focuses on the grammar, logic and rhetoric stages of learning. It will be vigorous in academics as pre-Latin begins in Kindergarten and Latin begins in 3rd grade. The literature includes many of the classics and the history is packed with "living books" of historical fiction bringing history alive. Math is taught in a systematic manner and material is mastered before moiving forward. Science is hands on with nature journals and many field trips.
The methods of teaching include Charlotte Mason's theories in providing an atmosphere of education as comfortable as home, discipline in education which encourages good learning habits, and "living" material that helps them to make life long relationships with people, nature, art, thoughts and ideas that invite children to love to learn. Narration of ideas teach children to share what they know and develops a focus of attention that helps students learn.
HCCA will have 3 tracts for parents to choose from. One for the full time student that will attend school 5 days a week. A second tract where students come in 2-3 times a week and are homeschooled the remainder days and a third tract for those who are homeschooled, but want to take advantage of enrichment classes like speech, drama, music, hula, etc.
The school motto is I am a child of God, I ought to do His will, I can do what He tells me, and by His grace, I will.
